Dumb Chick

Linda Hirshman has given cogent evidence that it is possible to be educated beyond one's intelligence when she suggested on a recent Good Morning America program that a woman who stays home to raise her children and be a homemaker is destroying herself, her children, and society.

"We care because what they do is bad for them, is certainly bad for society, and is
widely imitated, even by people who never get their weddings in the Times,"
Hirshman wrote. "This last is called the 'regime effect,' and it means that even
if women don't quit their jobs for their families, they think they should and
feel guilty about not doing it."

Hirshman also said educated women choosing to stay home was bad for them as individuals. "A good life for humans includes the classical standard of using one's
capacities for speech and reason in a prudent way, the liberal requirement of
having enough autonomy to direct one's own life, and the utilitarian test of doing more good than harm in the world," Hirshman wrote. "Measured against these time-tested standards, the expensively educated, upper-class moms will be leading lesser lives."

Well, excuse me. I am very busy and need to get back to wrecking society by doing family worship with my kids.

Sputter, sputter, gag gag!

What an idiot without even a basic clue. She'd be more fun to debate than a hyper--and you wouldn't even have to bring up the Bible!

I loved that one little girl in the end of the article who told her mommy that when she grew up she was going to get a job at the same magazine as her mom and sit at the same desk and they were going to work together there forever. The stupid mom took this as a compliment and confirmation that she was doing the right thing by working instead of seeing that her little girl was deperately communicating, "I want to be with you!" The woman's son wanted her to be home everyday, but that was ignored of course.

Blech.

Why do all these so-called experts on both sides berate the other side so harshly? I am a stay-at-home wife. I don't have kids. Don't intend to. I do not like to work, simple as that. I hate to get up early, I clean or not, as I please. Friends come over, we hang out, play guitar. I visit friends and do the same. Or go to the pool or the beach. Or what the hell ever I feel like doing. Can't some of us just not like to work without being called anti-feminist?
